The Entity
Carla, a single mother, has her hands full trying to make ends meet for her three children and herself. One evening, she is attacked and raped in her bedroom by an invisible force. For Carla, this marks the beginning of an ordeal that presents doctors and scientists with a seemingly unsolvable mystery, for the attacks do not stop … THE ENTITY combines a radical premise with an almost documentary-like sobriety, straddling the line between horror film and social drama. Above all, however, it depicts the helpless reactions of those around her: in the light of current debates, it can be read as a surprisingly perceptive parable about victim blaming. The uncanny lies not only in the invisible, but also in how we deal with it.
