Late Fame

With quiet intensity, Willem Dafoe portrays the poet Ed Saxberger – a once largely overlooked poet who now works as a post office clerk in New York. When his slim volume of poetry from the 1970s is rediscovered by a group of young, self-styled aesthetes, he is unexpectedly swept up in the maelstrom of a literary circle that hails him as a genius. Flattered by the attention and drawn to the seductive presence of the enigmatic actress Gloria, Saxberger briefly believes in a second spring as a writer – whilst at the same time beginning to question the motives of his admirers and his own artistic truth.
