INVISIBLE PEOPLE is an experimental documentary about Japanese Butoh dance, known as the “dance of darkness.” This radical form of expressionist dance, oscillating between rebellion, ritual, and meditation, emerged in the aftermath of World War II. The film presents striking portraits of important Butoh masters and performers, including Yoshito Ōno, son of Butoh co-founder Kazuo Ōno, who passed away during the filming.

Following the loss of her father, Alisa Berger embarks on a cinematic search for the invisible: for moments, people, and movements that exist between life and death, visibility and memory.
