In her early short films, Linda Christanell poetically explores a textile object she created—a two-part linen sphere—through the lens of her camera. In "Anna", she liberates her protagonist from traditional gender stereotypes by ironically subverting them and reducing them to absurdity through the artist’s fascinating arrangements of objects. In "Home", the filmmaker is traveling; images from the train window show the landscape as if on a canvas—in motion and, at times, abstracted beyond recognition. "Moving Picture" fuses cityscapes on the film emulsion into surreal places; snow falls upward, and the face of the young Barbara Stanwyck flickers larger-than-life across the walls of houses: cinema as a liminal space. A table set with enigmatic objects, complete with an overturned red wine glass, suggests a celebration in "Rouge et noir". Or is it, after all, a mysterious ritual? A woman, the sole guest, devotes herself wholeheartedly to a sumptuous dessert: “Ah, that’s me—goodbye.” (A.P.)
