Escape from New York

Set in the near future, the film imagines Manhattan as a maximum-security prison isolated from the rest of the United States. When the President's aircraft crashes inside the city, former soldier and antihero Snake Plissken is sent on a dangerous mission to rescue him within a matter of hours. Combining dystopian world-building with Carpenter's distinctive visual style, the film has become a landmark of 1980s genre cinema.
