ELEMENTS OF(F) BALANCE is a documentary film about the quiet, often overlooked forces of nature – and about how renewal is possible even where, at first glance, only destruction is visible. It takes us from dead forests in Central Europe to floating gardens in Bangladesh, on to large-scale renaturation projects in China, to the Danube Delta between Romania and Ukraine, and to jellyfish research in Slovenia. In all these places, we see how differently humans and animals react to ecological crises – and how closely their actions are interwoven with natural processes. The film also turns its attention to less obvious connections: to fungal networks as a source of inspiration for new materials, to permaculture as a lived practice, and to current developments in agricultural research that seek to rethink cycles. At its heart lies the idea of understanding nature not merely as a backdrop, but as an independent actor – as a system based on cooperation. Through tranquil, observational imagery shot in Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Slovenia, Romania, Ukraine, China and Bangladesh, the film combines scientific perspectives with a sensory, open narrative style, inviting us to reconsider our relationship with the environment.
