Dunkle Triebe (Sombre)
Drifting along the back roads of northern France, serial killer Jean wanders in search of his next victim. But when he meets the young Claire, the deadly rhythm of his existence begins to unravel. Caught between unsettling attraction and destructive desire, the two enter an obsessive relationship in which love and violence become inseparably entwined.
With Sombre (1998), Philippe Grandrieux created a radical, hypnotic work that exists somewhere between horror, psychological drama, and sensory cinema. Through its dark, tactile imagery and immersive sound design, the film explores the depths of human desire and remains one of the most uncompromising achievements of contemporary French cinema.
