Brand New Day

In 1986, the successful British synth-pop duo Eurythmics went on tour in Japan following the release of their LP Revenge. Amos Gitai followed the band with his camera and a shared fascination for this distant, foreign country. His captivating concert footage congenially captures the live energy of Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart. In between, quieter scenes show the pop duo meeting other music legends - including Ryuichi Sakamoto, who died last year - to find inspiration for new musical paths. Brand New Day is a brilliant music documentary that perfectly captures the global zeitgeist of the 1980s, but also works as another Gitai meditation on displacement. (Jurij Meden)
