Ah Girl
Singapore, 1994: Seven-year-old Swee Swee – who absolutely refuses to be called by her English name, Eileen – is lively, in love, and runs an illegal chewing gum trade at school. At home, as the eldest sister, she has to navigate the chaos of her separated parents and soon becomes firmly convinced: all adults lie! Set against a backdrop of candy-coloured scenes, the film unfolds as both a childhood and a cross-generational social commentary, carried by the impressive performances of the young cast and an interplay of situational comedy and bitter seriousness.
