Perhaps the most famous car from the former Yugoslavia is making the trip across the Atlantic once again. Three friends from Belgrade buy an old Yugo in the USA and drive it across the country – from New York to Los Angeles. Sound like a bad idea? It is. The little cult car breaks down constantly, forcing its crew into unplanned stops, quirky encounters, and conversations with people who all have their own unique stories to tell about the legendary Balkan runabout. What begins as a road trip tracing the journey of a car evolves into a surprisingly personal voyage through memories, migration, friendship, and the complex history of the former Yugoslavia. In their feature- length debut film, directors Filip Grujić and Aleks Borković blend dry humour with documentary curiosity, showing how a supposedly terrible car brings people and stories together. Amidst breakdowns, desert heat, and American highways, anode to the journey itself emerges – one that is as absurd as it is touching – revealing that sometimes, the destination doesn't matter at all.
