When 19-year-old musician Sonja learns she is HIV-positive, she sees her life as ruined – yet her crisis also brings the women of her family closer together. Amidst absurd everyday situations, deep pain, and surprising humour, a multifaceted portrait of female solidarity emerges. Directors Vesela Kazakova and Mina Mileva connect personal stories with a sharp-eyed look at a Bulgaria where demonstrations against equality and LGBTQ+ rights lay bare social tensions. Inspired by true events, WOMEN DO CRY is a bold, furious, yet tender film about vulnerability, solidarity, and the fight to be heard.
