To mark the 100th birthday of Harper Lee (April 28, 1926 – February 19, 2016), the 110th birthday of Gregory Peck (April 5, 1916 – June 12, 2003), and in memory of Robert Duvall (January 5, 1931 – February 15, 2026), who made his screen debut in To Kill a Mockingbird, we are screening the 1962 film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Harper Lee. Like its literary source, the film was a major success with critics and audiences alike. To Kill a Mockingbird won three awards at the 1963 Academy Awards, including Best Actor for Gregory Peck, and in 2007 it was ranked number 25 on the American Film Institute’s list of the greatest American films of all time.

As an adult, the daughter of a lawyer looks back on her childhood in 1932 in her hometown of Macomb County, Alabama, where she first came face to face with the problems and conflicts of the world around her. During the trial of one of her father’s clients—a young Black man falsely accused—the racial prejudices of the local community erupt into the open.
