Weltrevolution – Der Drahdiwaberl-Film
Weltrevolution tells the story of Stefan Weber, the rock band he founded, Drahdiwaberl, and their dream of world revolution. The film is also a piece of contemporary history, repeatedly drawing connections to political and cultural events of the past 50 years.
The earliest footage dates back to 1957, when Stefan is just ten years old. His older brother films several short movies starring Stefan, and also captures Drahdiwaberl’s first performance at the Volksstimmefest in 1969. What follows is the rise of the band to cult status in Vienna, a reputation they have maintained to this day. Featuring concert footage from 1978 to 2007, the film documents the many different facets of the group. An ordinary day in the life of Stefan Weber provides the narrative framework.
