“The days are long, but the years are short.” Josephine Ahnelt follows five women through the first few months after giving birth – a time caught between euphoria, feeling overwhelmed and loneliness. Through warm 16mm imagery, the film observes sleep deprivation, doubt and small gestures of care, whilst also highlighting postnatal depression as part of a profound upheaval. A sensitive, candid look at an experience that usually takes place behind closed doors.
