Welcome II the Terrordome
The collective suicide of an Ibo family as an act of resistance against slavery and the exile of Black people to the place known as the Terrordome are juxtaposed at the beginning of the film. A dystopian time capsule quickly takes shape, in which hip-hop and the lingering reality of colonialism are inextricably linked. In the dock? The ever-forgetting nature of the post-colonial world, the film’s precarious production conditions, and the omnipresent police brutality. WELCOME II THE TERRORDOME comes to life where the nihilistic acknowledgment of a history of violence takes place—a history that will never find its conclusion. A portrait of the political aftermath of Thatcher’s Britain through the lens of a fictionalized future that is hot on the heels of reality.
