We Will Be the World Champions (Bićemo prvaci sveta)

Nebojša, Borisa, Radomir and Aleksandar have a vision. They want to help basketball make its breakthrough in Europe. By founding the first basketball school in Yugoslavia, these pioneers take their first step towards realising their dream. And when, a few years later, they manage to qualify for the 1970 World Championships with the Yugoslavian team, they have practically reached the pinnacle of basketball. There, of course, the USA awaits as a seemingly overwhelming opponent. For the four young men, their team, and indeed for Yugoslavia, one of the greatest sporting challenges lies ahead: can they win the title and thus secure the first gold medal at the World Championships? In WE WILL BE THE WORLD CHAMPIONS, Serbian director Darko Bajić takes on the true story of the four key founders of basketball in Yugoslavia. In doing so, he strives to do justice to both the individual, historically significant characters and the complexity of the plot, whilst remaining as authentic as possible. A gripping biography about dreams, sport and team spirit, which captivates with plenty of wit and emotion and, incidentally, celebrated its Austrian premiere at the LET’S CEE Film Festival in 2015.
