Doris cares for her seriously ill mother day and night, while her older sister Carmen prefers to go her own way. After their mother's death, Carmen takes her to the variety theatre, where she becomes a star but has no idea of the dangers this milieu holds. For a small fee, her sister sells her to Fredy, who eventually abandons her when she becomes pregnant with his child. Cartellieri's portrayal combines seductive eroticism with frightening malice.
