Following his father’ s suicide, the young artist Toma embarks on a journey along the Danube river in search of freedom, meaning, and his own artistic voice. What begins as a personal escape from a world of constraints evolves into a poetic odyssey through the depths and hopes of an entire generation. In his second feature-length film, director Nenad Pavlović adapts the novel by Serbian artist and filmmaker Mića Popović, weaving together personal grief, societal confinement, and the power of art into a compelling arthouse film. In the tradition of the legendary Yugoslav "Black Wave" of the 1960s, Serbian Zenitism and the artist group Mediala, WANDERLUST tells the story of people on the fringes of society – outcasts, dreamers, and seekers – and explores how one can preserve one’ s own voice in a world defined by control and uncertainty. With its poetic black-and-white imagery and a powerful atmosphere hovering between melancholy and a spirit of new beginnings, WANDERLUST is at once a road movie, an artist’ s portrait, and a timeless reflection on freedom and self- discovery. It is a film about the power of art and the arduous yet necessary journey toward finding oneself.
