“The past is never dead. It’s not even past. All of us labor in webs spun long before we were born, webs of heredity and environment, of desire and consequence, of history and eternity.” So wrote William Faulkner in “Requiem for a Nun”, the 1951 book that is perhaps the maestro’s most formally ambitious work, in that it is sometimes a novel and sometimes a play. Likewise, these six films oscillate freely and boldly across timescapes – personal, global, cosmic – as they extravagantly transgress cinematic categories, excitingly probing the possibilities of the short film format.
