We hear and we listen. Like the films’ protagonists as they absorb and catalogue their surroundings: birdsong, other people’s conversations, everyday noises, machines, the atmosphere of places. Two teenagers are processing the loss of a friend; an older man tries to break through his loneliness by making recordings; another person captures the sounds of Ladipo automobile market in Lagos. They direct our attention deliberately to sound, both in our environment and in the cinema.
