Valerie a týden divů
It all begins quite innocently: 13-year-old Valerie has her earrings stolen while she sleeps. The next morning, actors, missionaries—and a ghostly figure—arrive in the village, setting their sights on her and attempting to abduct her into their dark realm… Amidst vampires, witches, and religious rituals, Valerie finds herself confronted with the contradictions of coming of age: desire and fear, purity and sexuality, life and death—all existing in dangerous proximity. At the height of the Czech New Wave, director Jaromil Jireš adapted the novel by surrealist Vítězslav Nezval, crafting a fairy-tale, surreal visual tapestry that evokes "Nosferatu" and Baroque passion plays—infused with boundless imagination and the spirit of Sigmund Freud.
