Una Madre (Eine Mutter)
Deva always sits right at the back of the bus that takes her home – to a small, shabby caravan where she lives with her eccentric mother, Giovanna. Her face, hidden behind the collar of her jacket, shows a hardness that seems unnatural for a young girl of her age. With this hardness, Deva carries on with her life following a traumatic experience, without allowing herself a single moment’s rest or relaxation. Then she meets 60-year-old Carla and starts working in her fish shop. There she meets Carla’s one-year-old grandson, whom she occasionally has to look after. Against her will, Deva eventually grows fond of the little boy. Something begins to change.
A warm-hearted and touching film in the spirit of neorealism about a young woman who is slowly finding her way back to life. The young Aurora Giovinazzo as Deva is a real discovery.
