Un señor muy viejo con unas alas enormes (Ein sehr alter Mann mit riesigen Flügeln)

Argentinian director and ‘father of the new Latin American cinema’ Fernando Birri adapts the short story of the same name by his friend Gabriel García Márquez. Pelayo and Elisanda rescue an old man with white wings from the water and take him into their henhouse. To the neighbour, it’s clear: he’s an angel! The priest is sceptical, but the simple village quickly becomes a place of pilgrimage complete with a fairground. As a celebration of colour and uninhibitedness, Birri presents a psychedelic satire on credulity and greed.
