Ulysses – Die Fahrten des Odysseus

Through a cunning strategy devised by Odysseus (Kirk Douglas), the Trojan War finally comes to an end. But when the victorious Greek heroes return to their wives and kingdoms, the beautiful Penelope (Silvana Mangano) waits in vain. Odysseus, King of Ithaca, has angered the gods during the war, and now he must face the consequences. The Trojan priestess Cassandra (Elena Zareschi) curses Odysseus and his men, condemning them to wander the seas forever. Thus begins his twenty-year odyssey. While Penelope remains at home, fending off numerous suitors and never giving up hope that her husband will return, Odysseus faces one danger after another on his journey: battling the Cyclops Polyphemus, resisting the songs of the Sirens, succumbing to the seductive advances of the sorceress Circe (also played by Silvana Mangano), and venturing into the realm of the dead. When he finally returns to his homeland after all these years, his struggle is far from over…
