The Woman in the Window

While his family is out of town, Professor Wanley encounters a beautiful stranger one night—a woman whose portrait is displayed in a shop window. Why not, for once, throw caution to the wind and say yes to a few drinks and an invitation to her home? Their intimate interlude, however, is interrupted by a lover who suddenly bursts in. And just moments later, Wanley finds himself having to dispose of a corpse... In this film noir—embellished with various satirical elements and Freudian references—Lang sets a trap born of a moment of temptation. With every attempt to conceal his deed, our respectable protagonist leaves behind an increasing trail of evidence, yet he never actually comes under suspicion—perhaps the true nightmare he is living through.
