With THE VELVET VAMPIRE, exploitation queen and Corman collaborator Stephanie Rothman has created a weird mix of artsy dreamscapes and sleazy, gory erotic horror. Rightly on all lists of the best horror films by women.
She wore red velvet... and the character is as seductive as the outfit. Diane (Celeste Yarnall) meets Lee (Michael Blodgett) and Susan (Sherry E. DeBoer) at an art opening. The young couple are immediately invited by the strange woman for a short holiday to her estate in the desert. Once there, things start to get strange pretty quickly. Lee and Susan are haunted by the same seductive but also threatening dreams and Diane doesn't really make a secret of her affection for Lee. When people from the neighbourhood disappear without a trace and it comes to their attention that Diane should have been dead for centuries, it's too late to escape...
