The Third Half (Treto poluvreme)

1939: the Second World War has already left a deep mark on Europe. Entire regions lie in ruins; families have been torn apart. Yet Dimitry, the owner of a football club in Macedonia, has quite different worries: his team, made up of talented young men from diverse ethnic backgrounds, is losing one match after another. Not even the star player, Kosta, can turn things around. On the contrary, he has taken to stealing and has fallen into a gambling addiction. To make matters worse, Kosta has also fallen in love – with Rebecca, the daughter of a Jewish banker. Determined to lead the team back to success, Dimitry hires the legendary German-Jewish coach Rudolf Spitz, whose dictatorial methods are initially met with little enthusiasm by the players. That changes when, thanks to gruelling training, the team rises to the top of the national league. But their luck does not last long. When the Wehrmacht invades Macedonia in 1941, events come thick and fast. A game of life and death and a battle between good and evil begins.

THE THIRD HALF is based on true events. At its heart: football, love, religion, national identity and the Holocaust. The story of a group of outsiders, for whom football suddenly becomes far more than just a game, is told in a deeply moving way.
