At a research station in the Antarctic, the team led by R.J. MacReady (Kurt Russell) discovers a horrifying secret. An alien creature with the ability to change its shape has been released - and nobody knows who to trust any more. Resentment spreads as the monster secretly lurks among them and strikes in ever more grotesque forms. The paranoia grows the more members of the crew are massacred. In this atmosphere of constant fear and threat, the question becomes ever more pressing: who or what is real?
