The long wait was worth it—Jackie Chan is back, in a role that truly lives up to his name. But above all, he’s back in a film that really moves: fast, precise, and sexy. Retired surveillance expert Wong Tak-chung (Jackie Chan) is called back into service by the Macau Police Force. He is tasked with training the elite “Adorable Unit” to finally track down the legendary Fu Longsheng, alias “The Shadow” (Tony Leung Ka Fai), and his gang. The gang steals billions in cryptocurrency and evades the police using rather elegant methods, treating us to one of the finest surveillance camera sequences in film history. And that’s just one of many sequences in the film where mise-en-scène, physical action, and fast, extremely precise editing once again teach us to love the big screen.

In the remake of the Hong Kong police film “Eye in the Sky” (Yau Nai-hoi, 2007), Tony Leung Ka Fai once again plays the role of the mysterious gang leader whose face has never been captured on camera. Who would have thought that good old Jackie Chan and he would make such a brilliant cinematic team? But yes, great action from old heroes is simply top-notch—though, of course, only on the big screen!
