The Omen
On 6 June at 6 o’clock, the Son of the Devil is born to bring the world to its knees. So goes the prophecy. At the very same moment, the wife of the American ambassador in Rome gives birth to a stillborn baby. To spare her the grief, her husband replaces the baby with another infant – without realising who or what he has brought into his family. As the boy turns six, eerie events and strange deaths begin to cluster around him … A veteran star of the calibre of Gregory Peck in an occult horror film – that was still a rarity in the 1970s. The direction by Richard Donner, then still a relative newcomer, knows exactly which levers to pull to effectively ramp up the tension minute by minute. “Ave, Satani!”
