Year2015

Duration119min.

An original, superbly cast and very, very funny satire on the couples' lie. Sometime in the not-too-distant future. Singles are no longer tolerated by society, everyone has to live as couples. Single people are hunted down and sent to a hotel where they have 45 days to find a new partner. If they don't succeed, they are turned into an animal of their choice. The short-sighted David (great: Colin Farell) arrives at the hotel after separating from his wife and chooses the lobster. A good choice according to the hotel manager, "the world is full of dogs". The rules in their love prison are strict: masturbation is forbidden. As punishment, the hand ends up in the hot toaster. The chambermaid carries out daily erection tests. Couple sports such as tennis are forbidden, but golf and swimming are okay. David's attempts at courtship are moderately successful, and life as a lobster draws closer.

Hotel guests can get extra days if they are successful in the hunt. Namely in the hunt for singles hanging around in the forest. Some of them, including a short-sighted woman (Rachel Weisz), have joined forces. However, this group is governed by equally rigid laws - only in the opposite direction: anything that smacks of togetherness is strictly forbidden, and romantic contact is severely punished.
