The Extra Girl

When Sue's father arranges a marriage for his daughter, she runs away to try her luck in Hollywood. But at first there are no offers of roles - only when she repeatedly wows a film crew with her "natural" awkwardness do the doors to the dream factory seem to open. Can Sue establish herself as a star and escape her role as wife and mother? The early days of Hollywood are full of stories of "movie-struck girls", women who wanted to leave their conventional lives behind for careers, glamour and wild parties. Mabel Normand is still known as one of them today - unfortunately more for her work as a director and screenwriter for numerous slapstick comedies and later as the founder of her own production company.
