Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma
The infamous slasher franchise *Camp Miasma* is set to be revived. To this end, they’ve even hired an ambitious young director. Her search for inspiration leads her, of all people, to the very actress who became famous as the ‘final girl’ in the original film and who has been living in seclusion for decades at the holiday camp that once served as the film’s setting … Jane Schoenbrun (I SAW THE TV GLOW) transforms hackneyed tropes of the camp slasher into a shamelessly intricate meta-horror labyrinth navigating VHS nostalgia, queerness and pop. Where other reboots merely pile up references, TEENAGE SEX is interested in the abysses of the genre itself – and in how deeply its images have become inscribed in bodies and desire. Blood fountains, fruit jellies and gender discourses included!
