In TÁR, director, writer and producer Todd Field tells the fascinating story of Lydia Tár (Cate Blanchett), the first female chief conductor of a major German orchestra. The gifted conductor has asserted herself in the male-dominated classical music scene and is at the peak of her career. She and her orchestra are planning an eagerly awaited recording of Gustav Mahler's Fifth Symphony. But while rehearsals are underway, more and more cracks appear in Tár's world: not only is her relationship with her concertmaster (Nina Hoss) becoming increasingly complicated, but past life decisions, accusations and her own obsessions threaten to catch up with her.
