Progressive Alzheimer’s disease is changing the personality of a mother who was once considered full of life. Sarah, who was active as an activist and artist in San Francisco in the 1990s, returns to her conservative hometown, which she had only recently left behind. There she encounters her headstrong family and a world that has long since become foreign to her. At first, she believes she can manage the situation and organize her mother’s care, but the disease gradually erodes any sense of certainty and breaks down familiar structures. The more the diagnosis intrudes on her daily life, the clearer it becomes that she must adjust her approach in order to fulfill her role as a daughter and meet the demands of her family.
