Few German films of the 1920s were as controversial and subject to such extensive censorship as G.W. Pabst's last silent film Tagebuch einer Verlorenen, which tells the story of the tragic social decline of a young bourgeois woman (brilliantly played by silent film icon Louise Brooks).
