Szerelmesfilm (Love Film)
Jancsi is on a train, traveling to visit his childhood friend Kata in France. He reflects on their youth together in Budapest—a time shaken first by the Second World War, then by the Soviet occupation and communist terror, and finally by the 1956 Revolution, during which Kata fled the country. As their reunion draws near, the image of her preserved in his memory increasingly eclipses the reality of the person she has become, leaving him to wonder whether the two still align… Drawing on his own experiences, Szabó uses vivid imagery and an associative narrative structure to depict the mindset of a generation shaped by the turbulent currents of 20th-century history—a thematic constellation he would later revisit in films such as "Mephisto" and "Sunshine".
