Whether picking strawberries or working in a poultry slaughterhouse, Ewa has to accept any job, however poorly paid, to earn the bare necessities for herself and her daughter. Her story is juxtaposed with that of Marold, a property agent who is unfamiliar with financial hardship but longs all the more for human closeness. Both are pushed to their physical and emotional limits in their fight for survival. STRUGGLE deals with the loss of human dignity in an affluent society using precise, documentary-like images and pointed dialogue and was a great international success at over 100 film festivals.
