It’s the eternal dilemma that rich people face: Are they loved for who they are, or just for their money? Unsettled by this, millionaire heir Edward leaves his life of luxury behind. His loyal butler Alfons is supposed to help him start over as a poor man—which isn’t so easy when love gets in the way… Two favorites of the “Economic Miracle” era of cinema in one film: While Erhardt emphasizes his cabaret roots with his absurd puns, Alexander proves to be an emotional charmer whose radiance infects the audience. The highlight of their interaction is, unsurprisingly, the musical number “Tun Sie’s nicht!,” in which both personalities harmonize their respective senses of situational comedy and physicality.
