SILKWOOD (1983)
SILKWOOD is a drama based on true events about a worker in a nuclear plant who exposes abuses and pays a heavy price for doing so. Cher plays Dolly Pelliker, a friend and ally of the title character (Meryl Streep). The film focuses on workers’ rights, corporate responsibility and the personal cost of whistleblowing.
Cher’s role is a strong supporting one: she brings warmth, loyalty and a rougher, down-to-earth energy to an ensemble cast dominated by Streep’s intense performance. SILKWOOD is less a political polemic than a personal drama about courage, mistrust and the quest for justice.
