Same Sun – Mit dem Fahrrad durch Afrika
The travel documentary *SAME SUN – CYCLING THROUGH AFRICA* chronicles Wiebke Lühmann’s journey from Freiburg to the Cape of Good Hope – honest, raw and intimate, capturing both the internal and external challenges of a 430-day cycling trip through 22 countries.
On 3 October 2023, Wiebke Lühmann climbs onto her fully loaded bicycle in Freiburg im Breisgau and sets off. 20,000 kilometres lie ahead of her, 22 countries and perhaps the biggest question of all: what happens when you leave everything familiar behind and simply set off? 430 days later, on 5 December 2024, she stands at the Cape of Good Hope. In between lies not just a long journey, but a time full of encounters, vastness, doubt and genuine change.
A year on a bike never feels the same. Sandstorms, heat and technical problems accompany her through Morocco and the Sahara. Along the West African coast, through Liberian rainforests, the Nigerian high plateau, the Congo Basin and the Namib, she keeps going. In the south of the Congo, after around 15,000 kilometres, something shifts. The destination seems further away than ever before. The joy of travelling has suddenly vanished, as has her energy. Nevertheless, Wiebke begins the final chapter: Angola, Namibia and South Africa. The landscapes become more expansive, wilder, more spectacular – and she feels calmer inside. After weeks of various challenges, the last hundred kilometres feel almost effortless.
