Roya
Roya, a teacher from Tehran, is imprisoned in Evin Prison because of her political beliefs. She is granted a brief release to attend a relative’s funeral – and is suddenly faced with a fateful choice: should she make a forced confession, which will then be broadcast on television, or return to her prison cell? With a fragmentary, at times dreamlike narrative style, Mahnaz Mohammadi succeeds in powerfully portraying the effects of oppression, trauma and psychological attrition. Her film is autobiographical in nature.
