Roller Girl
17-year-old Bliss Cavendar lives in a Texas town. She is fed up with her everyday life: nothing but tulle dresses, updos and beauty pageants. One evening, she secretly travels to Austin to watch a roller derby. She is quickly enthralled by the fast-paced sport and the wild girls in miniskirts, punky fishnet stockings and roller skates. Because of her speed, Bliss is soon the star and she not only wins every derby, but also gains more and more self-confidence. But conflict with her parents, who are not at all enthusiastic about her new hobby, is inevitable.
This coming-of-age film is the directorial debut of Hollywood star Drew Barrymore and is based on the novel DERBY GIRL by Shauna Cross.
