Renate D. – Psychogramm einer Frau
In a sportswear company in Gaming, Lower Austria, around a hundred women work on a piecework basis under precarious conditions. The seamstresses talk about extreme stress, unrealistically specified quantities and the struggle to finally establish a works council.
For the PRISMA TV series, Frankfurter depicts all of this with a keen sense of social imbalances, as the women ‘produce what they will never buy’ - after all, a pair of ski overalls costs a month's income.
The filmmaker then uses the example of a fashion saleswoman in the SCS, Austria's largest consumer temple, to explore the question of the extent to which there can be a ‘right life in the wrong one’: Renate D., born in 1947, married for eleven years, mother of a daughter and happy - but doubts are growing.
