Postcards From the Edge

For the addicted actress Suzanne Vale (Meryl Streep), the road back to a form of normalcy and the practice of her profession is a rocky one. It leads through rehabilitation centers, obligations to unloved roles, and, worse yet... the contractually imposed care of her mother, Doris Mann (Shirley MacLaine). Doris is also a celebrated actress, whose glory days are behind her, and she can boast of several talents: singing, dancing, entertainment of every kind...

However, the loving, understanding, and tender motherly role seems to be one missing from her repertoire. At least according to her daughter. But Suzanne's path to her goal is one of realization and insight. Also, the realization that mothers of daughters are just as much daughters of mothers.
