A strange distress signal forces two spaceships to land on the fog-shrouded planet Aura—and soon the crew realizes that something is amiss here, especially when the dead rise again… While on Earth the space race is reaching its climax and the universe is seen as a place of promise, Italy’s grand master of Gothic horror, Mario Bava, creates the exact opposite on a shoestring budget: an oppressive cosmos as a nightmare, expressionistically lit, surrealistically furnished, doomed from the start. It is clear from his ALIEN series that Ridley Scott watched this very closely.
