Oromtriali (Full Circle)
*Full Circle* begins with a psychological experiment suggesting that facial expressions for opposing passions like hate and love are indistinguishable when the accompanying words are unheard. Expression is the domain of aging actress Manana, who no longer gets roles. The flamboyant former star crosses paths in Tbilisi with various others grappling with their own social and moral dilemmas: Manana’s daughter, a young woman searching for her place in the world; a terminally ill woman betrayed by her husband; and her young daughter, destined to grow up as an orphan.
The film follows this cycle of intertwined lives. Some stories find resolution in the whirlwind of Perestroika; many do not. At the Tokyo Film Festival in 1987, Gogoberidze was awarded Best Director by jury president Gregory Peck for this film. (Gaby Babić/Barbara Wurm)
