A moving portrait of an extraordinarily courageous man who, against all odds and with unwavering humanitarian vigour, tried to make the impossible possible.

Sir Nicholas Winton, a young London estate agent, rescued 669 children from the Nazis in the months leading up to the Second World War. Nicky visited Prague in December 1938 and found families there who had fled the Nazi takeover of Germany and Austria, living in desperate conditions with little or no shelter or food and under the threat of Nazi invasion. He realised immediately that it was a race against time. How many children could he and his team save before the borders were closed? 50 years later, in 1988, Nicky is haunted by the fate of the children he was unable to bring to safety in England. He constantly reproaches himself for not having done more. It is only when he unexpectedly meets some surviving children on the BBC television show "That's Life!", who are now adults, that he begins to come to terms with the guilt and grief he has carried with him for five decades.
