On the Sea

Through hard work and unwavering discipline, oyster farmer Jack keeps the family business running on the rugged coast of North Wales. Over the years, he and his wife Maggie have built a stable life for themselves, though he’s never really been able to ask himself what he truly wants out of life. He finds the answers when Daniel, a younger deckhand, shows up in the remote community and makes no secret of how attractive he finds Jack.

In her second feature film, writer and director Helen Walsh (“The Violators”) delves deep into the emotional world of a man whom life has taught to hide his feelings as best he can. He must first learn what it’s like to be himself—and in doing so, wonders whether that would actually make him a happier man.
