Das Fallen. Die Falle is based on a text by the author, narrated by Sophie Rois and Jelinek herself, for a photo series by Neuwirth, created during her daily composing sessions in her apartment on Broadway in NYC. The work is an ironic, feminist inquiry into whether women can create art within a male-dominated creative sphere; drawing on the Old Testament, it explores the nature of time-based art through animation, text, and image collage. Alongside the two Jelinek-Neuwirth collaborations, we present the “musical video essay”… durch Luft und Meer …
, a video work that depicts Neuwirth’s exploration of the Arctic Ocean and creates a contemplative space of sound and image in which she reveals this northern maritime region in all its beauty, wildness, and fragility.
